About BMITDEE

What is BMITDEE?

BMITDEE is a free calculator suite for estimating TDEE, BMR, BMI, macros, calorie deficits, activity level, formula differences, and real-world TDEE calibration.

Is BMITDEE free to use?

Yes. The main calculators and guides are free to use. Some features, such as emailing a result link or downloading a PDF report, are provided as free convenience tools.

What calculators does BMITDEE offer?

BMITDEE includes a TDEE calculator, BMR calculator, BMI calculator, macro calculator, calorie deficit calculator, activity-level quiz, TDEE formulas comparison visualizer, TDEE calibration tool, and embeddable TDEE widget.

How is BMITDEE different from other TDEE calculators?

BMITDEE goes beyond a single calorie number. It helps users choose activity level, compare formulas, plan a calorie deficit, create macro targets, calibrate estimates with tracking data, and save or share results.

Can I embed the BMITDEE calculator on my website?

Yes. The Embed TDEE Calculator page provides iframe code that website owners can use to add a free calculator widget with attribution.

TDEE basics and formulas

What is TDEE?

TDEE means Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It is an estimate of how many calories your body burns in a full day after activity is included.

Is TDEE the same as maintenance calories?

TDEE is commonly used as an estimate of maintenance calories. If you eat around your real TDEE consistently, body weight should usually trend stable over time.

How is TDEE calculated?

Most calculators estimate BMR first, then multiply BMR by an activity multiplier. BMITDEE uses Mifflin-St Jeor by default and Katch-McArdle when body fat percentage is entered.

Which TDEE formula does BMITDEE use?

BMITDEE uses Mifflin-St Jeor by default. If a body fat percentage is entered, it can use Katch-McArdle because that formula estimates from lean body mass.

Should I use Mifflin-St Jeor or Katch-McArdle?

Use Mifflin-St Jeor when body fat percentage is unknown. Use Katch-McArdle only when your body fat estimate is reasonably reliable.

Why do different TDEE calculators give different numbers?

They may use different BMR equations, activity multipliers, body fat assumptions, rounding rules, or deficit presets. The TDEE Formulas Compared tool shows this side by side.

What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?

BMR estimates calories used at rest. TDEE estimates total daily calories after activity is included. BMR is usually lower than TDEE.

Accuracy, activity level and calibration

How accurate is a TDEE calculator?

A TDEE calculator is a starting estimate, not a guaranteed number. Real calorie needs vary with movement, training, sleep, health status, tracking accuracy, and body composition.

How do I choose the right activity level?

Choose the level that reflects a normal week of work, steps, standing time, and training. If unsure, use the BMITDEE Activity-Level Quiz.

What if I choose the wrong activity multiplier?

Your TDEE estimate may be too high or too low. If progress does not match the estimate, use the TDEE Calibration Tool after 2–4 weeks of tracking.

Why is my TDEE result not matching my weight change?

Possible reasons include inaccurate calorie tracking, water weight changes, different activity than expected, formula error, or metabolic adaptation. Calibration with real data helps.

How can I find my real maintenance calories?

Track average daily calories and weight trend for at least 2–3 weeks, then use the TDEE Calibration Tool to estimate real maintenance from actual progress.

Should I adjust calories immediately after one week?

Usually no. One week can be distorted by water weight. A 2–4 week trend is usually more useful for adjustment.

Calorie deficit and weight loss

What is a calorie deficit?

A calorie deficit means eating fewer calories than your body uses over time. When sustained, body weight usually trends downward.

How many calories should I eat to lose weight?

Start from estimated TDEE, then choose a reasonable deficit. The Calorie Deficit Calculator estimates target calories, weekly loss rate, and timeline to goal weight.

Is a 500-calorie deficit always best?

No. A fixed 500-calorie deficit can be mild for some people and aggressive for others. BMITDEE shows percentage-based conservative, moderate, and aggressive options.

How long will it take to reach my goal weight?

It depends on the amount of weight to lose and the daily deficit. The Calorie Deficit Calculator estimates a timeline and weight projection chart.

What if my target calories are too low?

If target calories are very low, BMITDEE shows safety warnings. Consider a smaller deficit or speak with a qualified professional before making major changes.

Should I use the Calorie Deficit Calculator or the TDEE Calculator?

Use the TDEE Calculator when you want maintenance, BMR, BMI, macros and advanced metrics. Use the Calorie Deficit Calculator when your main goal is weight-loss planning.

Should I eat back exercise calories?

Be careful. If your activity level already includes exercise, eating back all exercise calories may reduce or erase the deficit.

Macros and cutting

What are macros?

Macros are macronutrients: protein, fat and carbohydrates. They provide calories and help structure your daily food targets.

How does BMITDEE calculate protein, fat and carbs?

BMITDEE uses calorie targets and macro split percentages to estimate grams of protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Which macro split should I use for cutting?

There is no single best split. Many users prefer higher protein while cutting. BMITDEE shows multiple macro options so users can choose based on preference and adherence.

Why is protein important in a calorie deficit?

Protein supports recovery, satiety, and lean-mass preservation, especially when combined with resistance training.

Can I use the Macro Calculator without using the TDEE Calculator?

Yes. The Macro Calculator can estimate macro grams from a calorie target, but many users start with TDEE or calorie-deficit results first.

BMI, BMR and ideal weight

What is BMR?

BMR means Basal Metabolic Rate. It estimates calories your body uses at rest for basic functions such as breathing, circulation, and temperature regulation.

What is BMI?

BMI means Body Mass Index. It is a height-to-weight screening number, not a complete measure of health or body composition.

Is BMI always accurate?

No. BMI does not directly measure muscle, fat distribution, or individual health status. It is a broad screening estimate.

What is ideal weight?

Ideal weight formulas estimate a height-based reference range. They are not personal medical targets and should be interpreted cautiously.

Why does BMITDEE show multiple ideal-weight formulas?

Different formulas can give different estimates. Showing several formulas helps users see a range rather than treating one number as absolute.

Privacy, email, PDF and saved results

Does BMITDEE store my data?

Basic calculations run in the browser. If you email or save a result, the site may process the email address and result data needed to provide that feature.

What happens when I email or save a TDEE result?

The result can be emailed to you and, when saved history is enabled, linked to a private email-based dashboard with charts and body-trend visuals.

Can I delete saved history?

Yes. The private history dashboard includes a delete option for saved history connected to that private result link.

Are PDF reports private?

PDF reports are generated for the user from the result page. Be careful when sharing PDFs because they may include values you entered.

Why do result pages use private links?

Private links let users reopen a result or dashboard without a public account login. Only share them with people you trust.

Does the embeddable widget store user history?

No. The iframe widget is designed as a lightweight calculator. It does not save private history.

Medical and safety questions

Is BMITDEE medical advice?

No. BMITDEE provides educational estimates only. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace medical or nutrition advice from qualified professionals.

Who should speak with a qualified professional before changing calories?

People with medical conditions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, eating-disorder history, special diets, or very low calorie targets should seek qualified guidance before major changes.

Can pregnant or breastfeeding users use BMITDEE?

BMITDEE’s standard calculators are not designed to estimate pregnancy or breastfeeding calorie needs. Speak with a qualified professional for personalized guidance.

Can teenagers use BMITDEE?

BMITDEE is built primarily for general adult educational use. Teenagers should not use calorie-deficit tools without appropriate adult and professional guidance.

What if I have an eating-disorder history?

Avoid using calorie targets without professional support. Calorie calculators can be triggering or inappropriate for some users.
